CodeWarriors-
Here are some things you should know before you install CodeWarrior Pro Java Release 5:
Use the Installer: It's much more difficult to install the CodeWarrior
tools by dragging them from the CD to your hard drive. The installer has
a wide variety of options so that you can install exactly what you want.
It is recommended that you archive any changed components then fully
remove and delete your Metrowerks folder before installing a newer version
of CodeWarrior. Your current preferences will be used if you do not
delete the preference folder. Extensions: Metronub will be overwritten
in your extension folder. Previous extensions such as StdCLibINIT may
no longer be necessary, you should use MacOS 8.1's extension manager or
other utility to identify and remove obsolete extensions.
• The earliest system you should install on is 8.1.
•MRJ is required for debugging Java. You should install MRJ by either
launching it from the Install CW application found at the root of your
CodeWarrior Tools CD, or by using the MRJ installer located in the
Apple Development Tools Folder.
• The installer automatically creates a destination folder for new
material called 'CW Pro for Java R5'. By default, this folder will
be installed on the root level of your destination volume. If you
wish to install the 'CW Pro for Java R5' folder in a different location,
select the 'Select Folder' options from the install locations popup menu.
• The "Finishing Installation" process that occurs after the installer
is done copying files to your hard disk can take several minutes (up
to 10 minutes on large installs). Several people have asked what this
is really doing during this time. The installer is cleaning up your
desktop database since you've just pummeled your hard drive with 8500
files. It also removes any temporary files that are used during the
installation process.
• We have not found any INIT conflicts with the CodeWarrior installer.
However, we strongly recommend that you restart with your Extensions
and Control Panels turned off (except any needed to access the CD).
• The installer always installs System extensions to the currently
active System folder.
• To read a description of each installation option that's more
informative than just a name, click on the corresponding little button
labeled 'I' on the right side of the installation options list.
• In order to install French components for CodeWarrior, you must run
the Tools Installer, installing all the packages you want. Then after
the installation is complete, run the French Components Installer on
the Tools CD to replace the English components on your hard drive with
the French components. The French IDE and other localized tools will
no longer appear on the CD in uncompressed form.
• Some installation options install extensions and/or control panels
that require you to restart your computer before you can use them.
In these cases, the installer will give you the option of restarting.
It will not, however, force your machine to reboot, as past CodeWarrior
installers have. We strongly recommend that you choose to restart, as
the installer will perform some cleanup of temporary items when you
next reboot. If the installer displays an alert that says you need to
restart, you will not be able to fully use the your new version of
CodeWarrior until you restart your Macintosh.
• We value your feedback on the installer, the CD organization, and
the experience of receiving a new version of CodeWarrior in general.
We would like to make all these things better/easier for you :-) If
you have bug reports, comments, complaints, suggestions, praise, or
other feedback, fill out the appropriate form located in ':Release
Notes:e-mail report forms', and follow the directions within it.
